DESCRIPTION:8 NOVEMBER, 5:00 PM / Château de Vianden\nThe Embers of Romanticism\nFarrenc & Schubert\nAn immersive candlelit musical experience\nBy candlelight, this programme brings together two major works from the Romantic repertoire for piano quintet, offering two complementary approaches to chamber music in the 19th century.\nLouise Farrenc’s Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 30, composed in 1839, opens the concert with music of remarkable formal discipline and expressive intensity. A celebrated pianist and composer during her lifetime, Farrenc creates a richly woven dialogue for the same ensemble as Schubert’s famous “Trout” Quintet. With remarkable precision in the balance between piano and strings, each instrument contributes to a clear, harmonious and deeply vibrant musical architecture. The work captivates through its inner energy, the richness of its musical exchanges and the strength of its expression.\nIn contrast, Franz Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667, composed in 1819 and known as the “Trout” Quintet, offers a brighter and more narrative vision of the form. Inspired by his famous lied, the work is distinguished by its flowing melodies, transparent textures and unusual instrumentation, which includes the double bass. Schubert creates an intimate yet songful world in which the interplay of colours and recurring motifs gives rise to an atmosphere of remarkable freshness and vitality.\nPresented together in a single programme, these two works offer a contrasting journey between density and lightness, discipline and spontaneity, revealing the extraordinary expressive richness of the piano quintet as a vehicle for Romantic music.\nA complimentary glass of friendship, offered by the Friends of Vianden Castle a.s.b.l., will be served after the concert.\nProgramm Louise Farrenc (1804–1875)\nKlavierquintett in a-Moll op. 30 (1839)\nAllegro\nAdagio non troppo\nScherzo.
