MUSICDAYS VIANDEN 2025 – Closing concert
MusicDays Vianden 2025
02.11. – 09.11.2025
Castle, Ancien Cinéma, Trinitarian Church
6th edition
For the sixth time, the MusicDays are transforming the town of Vianden into a stage for musical discovery. The festival opens with the Calmus Ensemble Leipzig and Maurice Clement (organ) at the Trinitarian Church, presenting a program that spans from the Renaissance to Romantic and contemporary vocal music. At the castle, the concert “Der Ruf des Horns” features works by Mozart, Brahms, Reuter, and Kurtág, where the horn serves as a sonic thread connecting different musical eras. The Anaphora Trio takes over the Ancien Cinéma with an evening of jazz that blends techno-inspired rhythms, improvisation, and non-European influences. For children and families, “Coppélia – Eng ongewéinlech Popp” tells a whimsical story through music and dance, full of imagination. The closing concert brings together Mozart’s intimate Clarinet Quintet and Strauss’s sharp-edged suite “Le Bourgeois gentilhomme” – a final encounter of sonic finesse and stylistic sophistication. Old and new, poetry and play come into dialogue – there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Ernstes Spiel – gespielter Ernst
To conclude the MusicDays Vianden, two masters of musical refinement come into dialogue: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss. Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major, composed in 1789 for his friend Anton Stadler, captivates with its chamber intimacy and lyrical warmth – a subtle counterpart to his Horn Quintet, which was presented by Kammerata Luxembourg at the beginning of the festival. The work embodies a perfect balance of melancholic depth, grace, and dancing lightness.
Richard Strauss, for his part, takes the play to the point of irony: in Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, he transforms Molière’s comedy into musical theatre—filled with stylized dances, baroque winks, and a playful sense of humor. In its chamber version, the score reveals all its subtlety and offers a mischievous echo to Mozart’s clarity. Thus, the festival concludes with a refined dialogue between classical elegance and spirited whimsy.
