La Rasselbande – a colorful group of a cappella musical charm
An evening with La Rasselbande is the musical version of an ideal pub night: bold, entertaining, colorful, and often continuing well past closing time.
The current group was founded in 2010 for a birthday celebration. Since then, La Rasselbande has performed in various formations on different stages throughout southern Germany. Their current program P A R A D I S E is performed by the quartet Matthieu Binder, Timm Schuhmacher, Bastian Levacher, and Florian Hartmann. Regularly, La Rasselbande performs as a quartet for birthdays, weddings, corporate and club events, as well as with full-length concert programs.
The ensemble does not rely on elaborate stage shows, dance, or comedy: the focus is entirely on the music, the magic of ensemble singing, and the direct – sometimes cheeky, sometimes charming – interaction with the audience. This even works abroad, as at an open-air concert in France where the audience enthusiastically applauded the quartet – Chapeau, Messieurs!
La Rasselbande always sings a cappella – without instruments and mostly without percussion. The members received their musical training in the capella vocalis Reutlingen and the Aurelius Sängerknaben Calw. Even today, despite different interests, studies, and life paths, these young men share a common passion and fascination for making music together.
La Rasselbande does not shy away from any genre or era. The selection of pieces follows a simple rule: Do we want to sing – or not! The repertoire includes famous American melodies from the 1920s, known today as Barbershop, German romantic folk songs, and well-known classics. In exploring contemporary German, English, and French pop and rock, the group also ventures into swing, jazz, and blues. The main themes of their program are love and relationships, complemented by musical reflections on the daily life of an a cappella singer.
